Saluting Veteran Comic Book Artists: Stan Lee
Veteran Comic Con is proud to salute Veteran comic book artists. Today, we feature the late, great Stan Lee.
While Stan Lee may have sadly passed away in 2018, his legacy lives on through his work. But did you know Stan Lee was a Military Veteran? Find out more below.
Stan Lee served in the US Army, Lee entered the United States Army in 1942.
According to Wikipedia, Stan Lee “served within the US as a member of the Signal Corps, repairing telegraph poles and other communications equipment.
He was later transferred to the Training Film Division, where he worked writing manuals, training films, slogans, and occasionally cartooning.”
Stan Lee’s Army division included soon-to-be-famous Theodor Geisel, later to be known as “Dr. Seuss.”
Who knew the military could breed such fantastic artists? I’d say we at Veteran Comic Con had a hunch, though!
Stan Lee served in World War II
Stan Lee proudly served his country in World War II - is it any wonder that he’s the author of so many great superheroes, like Spider-Man, Iron Man, and the X-men (just to name a few)? He’s quite the hero himself!
Stan Lee returned from his World War II military service in 1945. In fact, Stan Lee was “inducted into the Signal Corps Regimental Association and was given honorary membership of the 2nd Battalion of 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord at the 2017 Emerald City Comic Con for his prior service” according to Wikipedia.
Comic Books and Veterans
Stan Lee and his foundation believed in the power of art, much like we do at Veteran Comic Con.
